Following a massive Russian shelling of Ukraine’s energy facilities, as of the morning of June 2nd, a portion of consumers in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Donetsk Oblast, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Sumy Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, and Cherkasy Oblast remain temporarily without electricity. However, the implementation of power outage schedules for domestic consumers and industry is not anticipated.
This information was provided by the press services of the Ministry of Energy and Ukrenergo.
The ministry stated that, specifically in the capital, the shelling by Russia damaged the production site and infrastructure of one of the energy enterprises. Two energy workers sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital, where they are receiving all necessary care.
The Russian army also attacked facilities in the oil and gas sector, resulting in documented infrastructure damage. No employees were harmed. Rescuers and operational services are working to address the consequences of the attack.
Electricity Consumption in Ukraine
According to Ukrenergo, electricity consumption has increased. Today, June 2nd, as of 9:30 AM, it was 8.2% higher than at the same time the previous day, Monday. The reason for this change is cloudy weather and rain in parts of western and southwestern Ukraine. This leads to lower efficiency of domestic solar power stations and a corresponding increase in energy consumption from the general grid.
Yesterday, June 1st, the daily maximum consumption was recorded in the evening. It was 1.6% higher than the maximum of the previous working day, Friday, May 29th. The reason for this is the traditional increase in energy consumption levels at the beginning of the week. The company noted that it would be advisable to shift active energy consumption today to the period of most efficient operation of industrial solar power stations – from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. They also requested that Ukrainians refrain from turning on multiple high-power electrical appliances simultaneously during evening hours – from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Furthermore, Ukrenergo emphasized that the situation in the energy system may change and advised monitoring announcements on the websites and official social media pages of each regional energy company separately.
