Although the price of blueberries for consumers in Ukraine is high, the costs of growing them are not always justified.
This was reported on her Facebook page by a sole proprietor, Tetiana Perevedentseva, from Kirovohrad region.
“Yes, the price of blueberries is indeed high. And, unlike raspberries, they store better, withstand transportation more easily, do not spoil as quickly, so they are easier to sell. Besides, it’s an investment for many years – one bush can bear fruit for decades with proper care. But there’s another side,” she said.

She says that if the main problem for raspberries is to harvest and sell the berries quickly, then for blueberries, the biggest barrier is the start.
“If we calculated that establishing a raspberry field of 30 acres would cost approximately 150-200 thousand hryvnias, then blueberries are completely different figures. Due to expensive seedlings, acidic peat, drip irrigation, mulch, and soil preparation, the initial investments can amount to 300-400 thousand hryvnias, and sometimes even more,” Tetiana noted.
Therefore, according to her, the high price of the berry does not yet mean easy earnings.
“Behind the beautiful picture of ‘plant and get rich’ lie large investments, several years of waiting for the harvest, and a lot of work. The more I calculate such business plans, the more I am convinced that in agriculture everything looks very simple… until you start calculating,” she concluded.
