Although this year’s harvest in the Chernihiv region began later due to weather conditions, it had positive outcomes for farmers. This was shared with Suspilne by the owner of the farming enterprise “Naporivske”, Hryhoriy Tkachenko.
“For the grain group, especially for winter wheat, it was quite a favorable year. Precipitation occurred as needed, and there wasn’t a long gap between rainfall. The prolonged spring, which was not rapid and not characterized by high temperatures, also served as a beneficial condition for growing winter wheat,” the farmer boasted.
The harvest began last week. In this period, approximately 150 hectares of winter wheat have been threshed out of a total area of 300 hectares. Hryhoriy Tkachenko states that combine operators manage to thresh 30-40 hectares per day, yielding an average of 150 tons of grain.
The situation with selling the harvest is not encouraging, according to the farmer. Due to the closure of Black Sea ports, grain prices have decreased.

“Yesterday, we dispatched a truck to ‘Stolychnyi Mlyn’ (Capital Mill), and they refused to take the wheat. We approached various business entities, just to sell it somewhere. We managed to sell wheat for 5,000 hryvnias per ton. Last year, the price started at 9,200–9,300 hryvnias per ton. Today, it’s 5,200. Prices have dropped this much. Such pricing occurred only in 2022. The situation is very challenging now. And in connection with these actions: the blockade of seaports and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, yesterday we purchased diesel fuel at a price of 92 hryvnias per liter,” Hryhoriy Tkachenko explained.
Currently, they are selling wheat to Ukrainian baking enterprises.
