In Mykolaiv region, the 2026 harvest is underway. As of August 3, 606 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops have been threshed (83%). Wheat harvested in the region amounts to 1 million 440 thousand tons from an area of 387 thousand hectares (90%) with an average yield of 3.7 t/ha, and barley harvested is 578 thousand tons from an area of 169 thousand hectares (98%) with a yield of 3.4 t/ha.
Nadiya Ivanova, director of a seed farm, states that the grain yield was 3.5-4.5 t/ha, which is on average three times higher than last year. Regarding grain prices, they have significantly decreased during the harvest. Moreover, due to massive shelling, not all ports in Odesa region are accepting grain. Writes Suspilne.
“Over the past three weeks, the price for grains has dropped by more than 40%. At the beginning of the season, barley cost around 10 thousand UAH/t in Pivdennyi, Odesa – about 100 UAH more or less. Currently, there is no price in Pivdennyi, today in Mykolaiv region the price is 5700. That is, almost half,” she says. (as of July 30).
Wheat, according to Nadiya Ivanova, has become cheaper in Mykolaiv region during the same period, from 11 to 6-7 thousand UAH/t. In Izmail, grain prices are slightly higher, but the journey there is longer.
Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Regional Council, reports on real prices as of August 1 in Dnipropetrovsk region via his Telegram channel.
He stated that farmers in Petropavlivka are currently selling wheat on non-cash terms for 5 thousand UAH/t. For cash – 4-4.5 thousand UAH/t. Barley is priced at 2.8 thousand UAH/t.
“And in Romania, at the port of Constanța, Ukrainian wheat costs $220-260 per ton depending on the grain grade. And the price is rising following the global trend. Yes, this includes logistics and transshipment. But our farmer on the ground receives significantly less. And the gap now is larger than any logistics can explain. At such prices, farms are incurring losses of $450-500 per hectare. And this is despite a good harvest this year,” the message reads.
Incidentally, in Poltava region, the price for third-class food wheat is currently 6200 UAH/t, and feed wheat is at 6000 UAH/t.
