The export of Ukrainian wheat in August is estimated at 500 thousand tons, compared to the usual 2 million tons for this month. This is reported by Kurkul.com, citing information from Spike Brokers.
As noted by brokers, the flow of Ukrainian wheat towards Constanța has begun to increase, but it remains limited for now. The deficit of Ukrainian wheat in the global market is being attempted to be compensated through other exporters.
For Ukraine, with the significantly restricted operation of Greater Odesa, the Danube River is becoming one of the key practical channels for wheat export. However, it fundamentally differs from direct deep-water logistics. The grain goes through a longer chain: internal delivery — Danube transshipment — further movement by barge or through Constanța — sea freight to the final buyer. Each additional link reduces the portion of the external price that can be passed back to the Ukrainian seller.
Meanwhile, the producer within Ukraine does not receive the full external premium, as a significant part of it is absorbed by additional logistics and the risk of fulfilling the delivery.
Wheat prices at CPT Odesa remained unchanged:
- 11.5% — $195/t;
- feed wheat — $185/t.
