
Cygnet Agrocompany achieved a wheat yield of 6.93 t/ha this year, with the harvest completed in a condensed timeframe. Yuriy Boridchenko, deputy director for crop production, shared insights on the 2026 agricultural season and future plans in a commentary for SuperAgronom.com.
Winter wheat was cultivated on an area of 2400 hectares among winter crops. The company does not grow early spring cereals. The area dedicated to wheat will remain largely unchanged, as it serves as a preceding crop for sugar beets. The sowing of winter wheat will commence immediately after soybean harvesting, coinciding with soil preparation for planting.
This year, a small area of sugar beets (42 ha) had to be resown due to damage from weevils.
“The primary factor impacting this year’s results was the aerial drought in the latter half of June, which significantly affected the grain filling of winter wheat, substantially reducing its yield,” he stated.
The increased cost of crop protection products and fertilizers did not significantly affect this year’s outcomes.
The company’s winter wheat yield reached 6.93 t/ha, predominantly yielding Class 2 food-grade grain. This met the planned target but was 3 centners lower than last year’s performance. The harvest began on July 15th and was completed swiftly within 10 days, encountering no major issues.
Regarding grain quality, dry weather during the ripening period led to reduced yield but contributed to the formation of high-quality grain.
“Due to the absence of maritime logistics and the risks of grain loss in ports from enemy shelling of port infrastructure, prices fell nearly by half, below expectations. We are storing the harvested crop for long-term keeping, hoping for an improvement in the current situation.”

Considering the challenges with crop logistics, the company plans to adjust its structure to increase the cultivated areas for soybeans and sunflowers.
As noted by Yuriy Boridchenko, soil moisture levels as of mid-August are insufficient for uniform germination.
Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers have been procured in quantities determined by agrochemical soil analysis.
“It is difficult to forecast expenses precisely, as the cost of sowing campaign components, particularly fuel, is continuously rising. The cost of the autumn campaign will increase by over 15%. It is too early to discuss the spring campaign,” said Yuriy Boridchenko.
Regarding fertilizer economy, the company indicated that the application rate for nitrogen fertilizers in the spring will likely be adjusted.
