The harvesting of winter rapeseed and cereal crops is nearing completion, but farmers will still have to battle for their corn and sunflower yields. This is because, as Ukravit company specialists note, weather conditions have been quite favorable for the spread of a complex of pests, including lepidopteran species, which are particularly challenging to control.
According to Iryna Usova, Product Manager for Insecticides at Ukravit, prolonged periods of heat and moderate humidity have created a fertile ground for the intensified pest activity of lepidopteran species in field crops.
“In virtually all corn-growing regions, the European corn borer and the cotton bollworm are found in the fields. On sunflowers, the cotton bollworm and the sunflower moth cause damage. Caterpillars damage the plants’ leaf apparatus, stems, and reproductive organs, indirectly contributing to the infection by dangerous diseases. Therefore, if their numbers in the fields exceed the economic threshold (ET), or if there is a probability of threat based on the sum of effective temperatures (SET), specialized insecticides must be applied,” she states.
For reliable and long-lasting protection of corn and sunflowers, Iryna recommends opting for the insecticide Belvin (flubendiamide, 480 g/l). It activates intracellular calcium release channels sensitive to ryanodine (ryanodine receptors, RyR), resulting in the complete release of all available calcium.

After the active ingredient enters the larvae, they lose muscle control and overall mobility, cease feeding, leading to complete paralysis and death.
On corn, Belvin controls the European corn borer, cotton bollworm, and armyworm. On sunflowers, it controls the armyworm, cotton bollworm, and other lepidopteran pests. The effect of application is very rapid, appearing 1-2 hours after treatment, and is characterized by prolonged action. When used at recommended rates, the insecticide is safe for beneficial insects and pollinators.
The insecticide is suitable for application with both conventional sprayers and multicopters.
